BROCKVILLE — The Ontario government is building 21 new beds and upgrading 75 beds at Sherwood Park Manor in Brockville. This is part of the government’s $6.4 billion commitment to build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
“I’m proud to have supported this important community project since I first became an MPP in 2010, to support an age-friendly community here in Brockville so seniors can age in place even as their health needs evolve,” said Steve Clark, MPP Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “Our government will continue to build up our long-term care facilities, while continuing to support a complete community where people of all ages can live and thrive.”
There are now 315 new and 305 upgraded long-term care beds in development, under construction or completed in Leeds and Grenville, including the following projects:
- 104 upgraded beds at Carveth-Gananoque
- 94 new and 66 upgraded beds at Southbridge Kemptville
- 68 new and 60 upgraded beds at Arch Long Term Care – Prescott
- 132 new beds at Maple View Lodge.
“Our government has a plan to fix long-term care and a key part of that plan is building modern, safe, and comfortable homes for our seniors,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care. “When the construction at this home is complete, it will be a place for local seniors to call home, near their family and friends.”
The government has a plan to fix long-term care and to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve both now and in the future. The plan is built on three pillars: staffing and care; accountability, enforcement, and transparency; and building modern, safe, comfortable homes for seniors.
“Elizabethtown-Kitley is thrilled that the Province is supporting the crucial role that Sherwood Park Manor continues to play in providing high-quality care to seniors who have called this region their home for many years. As a not-for-profit long term care facility which does not benefit from municipal funding, community support is vital to the longevity of the Manor. The hard work is only just starting, and I know we can count on our community to step up as we embark upon this critical redevelopment project which will benefit both current and future generations.”– Brant Burrow, Mayor, Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley
“It is a monumental day for Sherwood Park Manor to receive this opportunity from the Provincial Government to redevelop our home into a 128 bed multi faceted Long Term Care community facility. Serving the residents of Brockville, Prescott, and throughout United Counties of Leeds and Grenville for over 45 years as a not for profit, non municipal home we are very pleased that the renovation will allow us to continue this service to our community for many years to come.” – Alfred O’Rourke, Administrator, Sherwood Park Manor
“After much study and deliberation, the Board of Directors decided a new building to house 96 beds would be needed to serve the ongoing and future needs of our communities. This will increase capacity to 128 beds. I want to thank the government for their support and the trust they are placing in the Board and Staff of the Manor to complete the project. I also want to thank our local MPP Steve Clark for his encouragement and support for Sherwood Park Manor and our redevelopment.”– Ken Durand, Board Chair, Sherwood Park Manor
