Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre Approved to Offer Trade Delivery Training

NEWS                                              April 27, 2022

Kemptville — Today, Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and the Rideau Lakes, announced our government is working for workers by expanding Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre’s class offerings to include Truck and Coach Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, and Agricultural Equipment Technician. The change means young people and job seekers in Eastern Ontario interested in pursuing rewarding careers in skilled trades will be able to do so conveniently close to home.

The province is providing up to $60,488 funding to offer apprenticeship training for all three trades, to meet local demand for training in these important trades.

“Today is another big step forward in the revitalization of the Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre. I’m pleased that our government has recognized the need to give students from North Grenville the opportunity to train for a career in the trades close to home – as they have done here for generations,” said MPP Clark. “I want to thank the municipality of North Grenville for their advocacy to deliver these important programs and to Minister McNaughton for his support. This is not only great news for students looking to chart a path in a rewarding career, but for local employers desperate for skilled workers.”

“When you have a job in the skilled trades, you have a job for life, and there is as much merit in the skilled trades as there is in law, medicine or accounting,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “I was thrilled to approve this training program for Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre and everyone in North Grenville. Our government will continue to knock down barriers to the skilled trades and fight the stigma, so more young people have pathways to these life-changing careers.”

The programs are scheduled to begin in October 2022 under the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and will be offered in both official languages, as part of their 2022-23 In-Class Enhancement (ICE) Fund agreement. For more information, or to register for the program, contact Liz Sutherland, Executive Director at lsutherland@kemptvillecampus.ca or (613) 258-8336 Ext. 418.

“I am thrilled to see the Government of Ontario’s support for the delivery of leading edge educational and apprenticeship programs in Eastern Ontario. We appreciate the strategic investment made by the Upper Canada District School Board and the important financial commitment being offered by Ministers McNaughton and Clark. This will positon these programs for long term success.” – North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford

“It’s no secret that skilled tradespeople are in high demand. These programs that we have developed with our community and industry partners will not only help address the labour shortage in the trades, but help unemployed or under-employed people get experience in the trades that could ultimately lead them to well-paying jobs.” – UCDSB Chair John McAllister.

“Kemptville Campus has a long history of training youth from rural Eastern Ontario and we are pleased to have the opportunity to continue this role with the award of trades training licenses in Truck & Coach, Heavy Equipment, and Agricultural Equipment. As stewards of the former Kemptville College, we are thrilled to work with our four school board partners to provide training opportunities for youth and build the foundation of a thriving economy and rural community.” –Karen Cooper, Chair of the Board, Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre
